Wrinkle Relaxers

At Bay Wellness Centre in Vancouver, we are naturopathic doctors who are trained in creating “the natural look” when injecting  “wrinkle relaxers”, or neuromodulators. Results from neuromodulator injections include: smooth skin, reduction in fine lines, and wrinkles. Specifically we can treat forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet and wrinkles surrounding the eyes, frown lines, gummy smiles and provide general anti-aging effects.

By using very conservative (lower) doses, we can create a natural and subtle look. No one needs to know what you’ve been up to, or why you look so good! We like to create subtle changes to enhance your natural beauty and slow down the appearance of ageing skin. For other natural collagen building treatments, check out our micropen treatments page, and PRP facial treatments. All of these treatments combined will leave you feeling fabulous.

Benefits of Wrinkle Relaxers (Neuromodulators):

• The most popular non-surgical aesthetic treatment
• No downtime
• Smooth skin and anti-aging effects
• Affordable natural results
• Results last up to 3 months

At Bay Wellness Centre, we use Xeomin for injection which does not have additives; it is simply botulinum toxin type A. It acts by temporarily relaxing specific muscles by blocking nerve impulses. As the treated muscles relax, dynamic wrinkles, or wrinkles that appear when you are making facial expressions, and lines created by their contraction gradually fade, and sometimes even disappear leaving smooth skin. We are able to see a reduction in fine line visibility after 1-2 rounds of injections. Regularly scheduled injections can actually prevent wrinkles from forming. This includes common forehead wrinkles, frown lines and under eye wrinkles.

The possible treatment areas include:

  • Forehead lines
  • Frown lines (#11 between eyebrows)
  • Brow lift
  • Bunny lines (on the nose)
  • Down-turned smile
  • Gummy smile
  • Crow’s feet
  • Jaw slimming

The risk with injecting any type of Botox product is that it may spread from the injection area causing potentially life-threatening swallowing and breathing problems. This was predominantly seen in children treated with Botox for off-label use in the treatment of cerebral palsy. These issues have not been reported among people who have received botulinum products for cosmetic uses or to treat blepharospasm.

Other risks may include bleeding or bruising at the injection site, or a diffuse headache and an allergic reaction such as itching, swelling or shortness of breath.

What to Expect

A typical injection treatment takes only 10-15 minutes and causes little discomfort because the needle used for injection is very small.

Small ice packs are on hand if necessary.

Arnica (oral or topical) is a great choice to improving any appearance of bruising.

The beautiful, natural looking results gradually take effect over the following two weeks after your treatment and can last up to 3 or 6 months. We advise patients to expect peak results after 4 to 6 weeks, and to keep this in mind when planning any special events. Results typically last around 3 months and we recommend regular touch ups to maintain results.
